"She's like Texas..."

Two weeks ago I got a phone call from my mom asking if I would come back to Texas for Easter if she was there and if she flew me home.  A little confused, I immediately said, "Of Course!"

What you need to know about the significance of this phone call is that my mom was in Switzerland (where my parents live currently,) and she informed me that she was going to last minute fly home to Texas for a couple of weeks to get some things done before my parents next move to China coming up in a month.  (I know my parents are confusing with where they are when.  Just think oil/natural gas company.  That usually helps.  Their residency status is also not really the point of this post.)  So there I was booking a flight for the coming Friday to spend Easter with my mom and brother.

If you know me, I don't normally go around on the "Texas is the best state ever" bandwagon.  Don't get me wrong, I do love the Lone Star state, but living all over the world in 12 different places, I kind of pull out the location that best fits the situation.  Well, when I pressed "accept" and bought those tickets, I felt full pride for getting to fly home to the great state of Texas!  My facebook wall became an assortment of music videos and lyrics to as many songs with anything about Texas in them as I could find!

All week before I left, I played Texas Country falling in love with the song "She's like Texas" by the Josh Abbott band.  Well my expectations for a Texas filled weekend were not let down!  Friday night we ended up at a Mexican restaurant, near my parents, that was having Karaoke night, so just imagine a scene including enchiladas, chips and queso, Country Western Karaoke, lots of cowboy boots and cowboy hats, people dancing, and a random mechanical bull all on the huge outdoor lakeside patio of this delicious restaurant.  I mean if that doesn't scream "Texas" I'm not sure what you are looking for.  It felt great to be home!

Saturday and Sunday I spent a lot of good quality time with my mom and brother.  We shopped.  We ate more Mexican food.  We celebrated Easter at my brother's awesome church.  We took funny pictures.  I bought my first ever pair of cowboy boots (how it took my moving to AR to get them, is beyond me.)  It was a restful, encouraging, much needed family weekend!  Since my family lives in 2 states and 2 different countries, it's always a treat to be able to spend family time.  Dad, we missed you!!!!

For all of the Easter pics, feel free to check them out here.
